A busy Christmas carol service at St James Garlickhythe with Christmas decorations

St James is at its heart a community of followers of Jesus Christ who told us to imitate him as the one who came ‘not to be served but to serve’.

We try to be a practical and spiritual resource for local groups and workers.

One of our proudest links is with the Salvation Army in Hoxton. Every year, during our many carol services, childrens’ gifts are left under our Christmas tree (kindly donated each year by the Vintners Company). The Salvation Army then collect these donations and distributes them to children in East London.

Every year, the number of collections goes up!

The Salvation Army also collect our Harvest Festival gifts which are then taken to food banks and distributed to those most in need.

Many groups make use of our church and rooms as an ideal place to meet.

There is an AA meeting held in our parish room for meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes. If you would like details of which groups meet at St James, please email the parish administrator at adminSJG@london.anglican.org.

Many choirs use our churches to rehearse, two of them on a regular basis. The London Gallery Choir and Collegium hold regular concerts.

We are also home to the Queenhithe and Vintry and Dowgate Ward Clubs who join us for services and who represent workers and residents in the City.
